Painting unwanted small regions

Often a drawing contains a number of small regions around the edges of larger regions. These regions are created when the drawing was image processed; imperfections in the animator's pencil line cause extra regions to be created. If the drawn lines met at acute angles and the processing values were not correctly adjusted, the software can create an extra region in the angle.

Normally, these unwanted regions would be very small, and barely noticeable, but if they remained unpainted, they could catch the eye as the animation was played.

To avoid this and to speed up painting of these small regions, you can use the Smart Fill tool, when you have finished painting all the larger regions of the drawing. This is usually the last thing you do in a drawing to complete it before going to the next drawing.

  1. Select the Smart Fill tool, hold down the Alt key and drag out a rectangle around the entire character.
  1. The unpainted regions are painted with the color of the largest region that borders on them.
